Osteoporosis
There are many exercises that can help the osteoporosis patient. Research studies show that weight bearing exercises and resistive training will strengthen bones, as they stimulate bone growth.
An exercise program is specifically devised for each patient. based on the evaluation by a physical therapist. The goals will be to strengthen weakened muscles and target the areas that need most attention.
Resistive exercises, using weights and/or elastic bands will be given. The technique used will be low weight, high repetition. It is recommended that the patient follow their physician's recommendations regarding medication and exercise.
Posture is also a factor. Compression fractures can occur, which lead to kyphosis of the thoracic spine. If this condition is caught in the early stages, it can be corrected by strengthening paraspinals and core muscles as well as some specific posture exercises.
